Trek to Kankeshwar + Alibaug

Of course, Maharashtra is not endowed with the Great Himalayas or the difficult trek routes, but whatever available in the Western Ghat range of the state, provides you a really thrilling trekking experience. Of the various regions in Maharashtra, the Sahyadris is the most important trekking region of the state. 

In Maharashtra’s local Marathi Language, Western Ghats is called as Sahyadri range. Often referred to as a ‘trekker’s paradise’, Sahyadri range is bestowed with lush green hills, steep hair-raising cliffs, picturesque waterfalls, beautiful lakes making their way through ridges and dense forests all around. 

Let us visit one of the easiest and closet trekking spot, which offers you an excellent opportunity to experience a different day for the season.

Kanakeshwar - near Alibag is a nice place and famous for cool climate and especially because of old temple of Lord Shiva. The temple is situated on a small hill and the nearby village is ' Mapgaon ' which is almost 12 kms. from Alibag. The hill is almost 1200 feet high and one has to climb 700 - 750 steps to reach the temple.

The Kankeshwar forest is a dense forest with a greenish lush look. Kanakeshwar is a place to feel the jungle and silence of the jungle and hills. If you want to see the beauty of Arabian Sea and fort of Khandevi as well as the entire hilly region, then Kanakeshwar is the place to visit.

The challenging target of more than 750 steps flagged by densely covered mountains on either side presents a collage of nature's awe inspiring beauty. The panorama fueled our goal to reach the top with bursts of enthusiasm and enery and we started off to discover the mountain folds and explore the unknown.  

Moreover, it is not possible to explain everything in words, once you finish trekking in Maharahstra, you will yourself realize that the climbs were really exciting and you will return your home with some lifetime memories.
